Empowa Women in Energy
The world and the energy industry are going through an unprecedented period of transition and upheaval, at a time when women are also shaking things up and redefining their purpose. This is an opportune time for women to rise up and take a leading role in being the force for change during the energy transition. Our resilience and willingness to “Adapt” and be “Poised” to be an integral part of this journey is not an option but a must.
Although women comprise 51% of South Africa’s population – they only make up 44% of the employed workforce, 29.4% of executive manager, 20.7% of directors and 11.8% of CEOs or Chairpersons in JSE-listed companies and SOEs (BASA Women in Leadership Census, 2017).
The higher you go, the less women are represented.
A steady flow of talented women from entry-level to c-suite will enable companies to leverage the diversity dividend of women to increase financial returns (McKinsey Why Does Diversity Matter, 2015)
